Alghero program
15-25 september 2004

Dance in light is a program focused on the issue of visibility

Light is at the same time a symbolic and tangible element, it is a material to which artists will confront themselves and with which they will play to inhabit urban imaginary spaces, creating luminous installations and performances in the city. This program will be presented to the public at the end of the residency in Sardinia. The participants will have the opportunity to address the use of the light with expert light designers and investigate the relationship between light, body and space.

How to give visibility to the creative process and not only to the achieved work? Artists will investigate Alghero’s context through impromptu actions in different places of the city. Besides, the organisation of laboratories dedicated to artists and the local public, meetings and public presentations of the work will contribute to make this international program visible on the territory.
To give visibility to art is also linked to the capacity to inform and tell the body and its symbolism by becoming a proper language, meaning not only a narrative language but also an evocative direct language.

The conference organised on the 23th and 24th September will be the occasion to address the link between criticism and artistic work. Entitled “Perceive and communicate dance and its context:criticism and journalism for dance” the conference will be animated by art critics and journalists coming from different countries.

To give visibility to artists and their work also means to structure methodologies and networks on a long-term basis, contributing to foster the production and distribution of their work. This is a crucial issue in the southern countries where the artists badly suffer from isolation and where the artistic and cultural field shows a big lack of management skills.
Through this program, we wish to support the elaboration of specific qualifying proposals regarding cultural management for itinerant and international scale programs.

This program will be ending on the 25th September through the link with another event organised by the Municipality of Alghero about Art and philosophy “communication, images and visibility” including the intervention of philosophers and well-known artists.
The maestro of Mediterranean cooking, Giovanni Fancello, who will be leading a laboratory on taste and will be responsible for the gastronomic side of the program, will foster convivial exchanges and meetings, offering culinary courses where food is the support for aestethic and high culture.
